Holiday Gifts for the Home

The Mazer Group’s business is helping people find their homes, so this is one of our favorite gift guides to create for one of Boston’s top real estate groups. Finding presents to adorn the walls of a dwelling or make it a bit more cozy is totally our cup of tea. Of course, being a group of true New Englanders, we also focused on local vendors who lovingly craft beautiful and unique items either to give as a hostess gift for someone you love or as a little (or big) treat for yourself.

 Nantucket Looms

Wrap someone in luxury with a lavish handwoven throw from Nantucket looms. Since 1968, artisans have been weaving gorgeous fabrics into cozy blankets that meet both form and function. From mohair ($495) to alpaca ($750) cashmere ($1,400), these are just what you want draped over your favorite sitting nook, awaiting your shoulders on the first chilly night or grey lady morning.

Noted Candle

Light up someone’s holiday season with a “sweet” Winter Warmer Gift Set ($44) from Noted Candle. The set contains a candle made in Noted’s South Boston studio, as well as marshmallow treats and hot cocoa mix from Sweet Lydia’s in Lowell. In its chic Boston glass bottle, the candle and matches set ($46) also make a nice little gift.

A Peterman Hand-made Wooden Bowl

If a tree falls in the forest, does anyone hear it? Local artisans do! The Mass Bay Trading Company sells rustic bowls handcrafted from trees that have fallen in Massachusetts forests. We love the sustainability aspect of these bowls, as will the nature lover in your life. This live edge ambrosia maple oval bowl ($90 – $630) is just an example of the beauty that can come from something that might otherwise have been forgotten.

An Ornament from The Glass Studio on Cape Cod

Hang some holiday spirit on someone’s tree with a handblown glass ornament made in Cape Cod. The Glass Studio on Cape Cod has been breathing life into the mastery of glass blowing since first opening the East Sandwich studio in 1992. They make household items, like vases ($150) become works of art. Send someone a piece of this delicate artistry in the form of a tree ornament. This poinsettia ornament ($28) makes for a lovely holiday gesture.

Give the Gift of Art

A work of art can be beautiful, personal, and also thought-provoking. But, art can also be a major investment. For these reasons, works of art make a unique gift. If you find the process intimidating, check out Todd Mazer’s tips HERE. We also have a few suggestions from local artists and our favorite gallery.

           Adrienne Christos Art

Massachusetts-native and artist Adrienne Christos can turn pretty much anything into art. Her works of fine art draw inspiration from the spirit of women and the female form. But Adrienne isn’t pigeonholed just to the canvas. She can turn anything into art – from leather jackets to pianos. Consider commissioning her to turn an item in your house into something magical. Ari Hauben's "Don't Worry About That Guy"

Ari Hauben Art

Fort Point-based artist Ari Hauben wears many hats – father, artist, art teacher, and Button Factory founder – all of which he does exceedingly well. We love that his contemporary art provides a witty narrative on pop culture. Check out his “Don’t Worry About That Guy” ($260) from his real men wear pink series. Peruse more of Ari’s work on his online shop HERE.

 Art from The Pellas Gallery

If you’re looking for a piece of art but aren’t sure it will fit your style, check out Newbury’s Street’s Pellas Gallery. With their carefully curated exhibitions, they can guide you toward the piece meant for you or that special someone. They can also help locate other works that might fit your style.
